I was introduced to Hot Pilates while practicing yoga at West Coast Sweat, and quickly became captivated. I started to notice changes immediately, not only in my physical strength, but also my mental health. Soon after, I became a mat-certified Pilates teacher and recently certified as an Inferno Hot Pilates Instructor with Gabi Walters. The mixture of Pilates principles paired with high-intensity interval training gives me the opportunity to incorporate simple, yet effective and challenging exercises into all of my classes. I love facilitating a class that anyone can take, and everyone can see results from. I believe that Hot Pilates is an incredible method to support longevity and improve your overall health and wellness. My goal as an instructor is to guide a class that helps students deepen their mind-body connection and to inspire them to actualize their health goals.
My first Inferno Hot Pilates class was in the 8th grade and I quickly fell in love with the heat and the community that came with it. In my youth I was struggling with confidence issues and the fact that the teachers would remember my name or compliment me in class would be the highlight of my day. I knew so many other young people that struggled with confidence and mental health issues as well and I thought that if Hot Pilates could help me then it might be able to help others as well. My freshman year of high school I decided to get certified so that I could help others in the same way I had been helped. My goal as a teacher is to make each and every student feel strong, capable, and loved because I am filled with joy when my students are able to accomplish a goal that they never thought they could.
I have been a student of yoga since 2009, and was certified in 2011 to teach the Bikram 26 and 2. During my first Bikram class ever (in Everett, Washington, with the gracious Yu Wang), I instantly knew that the challenge, the sweat, the timing, and the heat and humidity would be my life’s passion. Within two years of attending my first class, I moved down to Los Angeles with my husband and attended the 9-week long training. I continue to grow and learn about different styles and formats of yoga and have taken a particular liking to focusing on breathing and meditation, both inside the classroom and out. After having my second child, I founded, and currently manage, Little Hands Yoga of LB, which specializes in yoga for kiddos, with a focus on breathing techniques, meditation practice, and self-regulating emotions. For me, practicing yoga has consistently been about the balance between strength and flexibility. You cannot have one without the other, and yet, these two forces are often at odds. It has been immensely enlightening to watch my body and my soul learn to moderate them. My biggest learning from my nearly 10 years of practicing yoga is that strength and flexibility follow you outside the yoga room and into the world. Work, parenting, relationships: all these require a different version of you throughout your engagement in these realms of existing. At one time, you need to be strong, and at another time, flexible, and on most days, you find that you need to be both simultaneously. Bikram 26 and 2 has taught me how to coordinate and exert both of these opposing, and yet cohesive, attributes. I am a better person for it.
Yoga & Hot Pilates Instructor
Hi! My name is Dustan Hazen. I’ve made 46 wild trips around the sun to date. On paper I’m a 500 Hour Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor of the Bikram Method, NASAM Certified Personal Trainer, Sport Performance Enhancement Specialist specializing in Injury Prevention and Sports Nutrition. I’m a Dad, Surfer, Student of Life, Bone Cancer Survivor, Self Healer, and Transformation Facilitator. Call me the blue collar Yoga Instructor! My quest to learn led me to the Yoga and functional movement thing, and there I began my journey into my practice and fully dedicated to it in 2014 where I completed 500 consecutive days straight using Bikram Yoga to heal myself mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally following an all out battle with Bone Cancer, divorce, medication addiction, being a full-time single parent, and really just life in general. In 2016 I attended Teacher Training purely with the intentions to deepen my practice and my understandings of this of the yoga. Once I realized how important this yoga is to everyone I knew I had to share it. I poured my heart and soul into my teaching my classes. My purpose as a Teacher, as a transformation facilitator, is to give you the tools necessary for you to look into the mirror, into the eyes of your reflection and truly see your strengths, your vulnerabilities, and truly see the power of yourself! This yoga makes you better at living the life you live! Be your own Guru. Namaste
Let me introduce myself. My name is Francisco Rufino and I’m originally from Mexico City. I graduated from Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in San Diego in the fall of 2010. After the training, my journey as a teacher began, and I have been sharing my passion with the yoga community in Mexico for the last several years. As a practitioner, I discovered the unlimited potential that hatha yoga practice gives us day by day: that’s why it’s called practice! Each day, we learn together: the teacher learns from the student, and the student learns from the teacher. It’s part of the union; it’s part of the process. I’m happy to start learning with the Bikram Yoga Long Beach community. Let’s work together. Let’s discover day by day who we really are with our unlimited potential. It is my privilege to be part of your 90-minute meditation, locking the knee every day. In Lak’ech. (I am another you.) Ala K’in. (You are another me.)

In 2011, I was training to run the Los Angeles Marathon when I sprained my ankle. I was looking for a low-impact workout when my sister encouraged me to take a Bikram Yoga class. Immediately, I was drawn in by the physical challenge of the practice. After a few classes, I decided to sign up for a 30-day challenge. I was excited with the changes and improvements I saw in my flexibility, strength, and mental focus. By the end of the month, I knew I had found my passion. A year later, I suffered a knee injury. It was then that the healing power of this yoga became evident to me. I experienced mental and emotional benefits to a greater extent than I had before and knew I wanted to share this beautiful healing practice with everyone. I completed Bikram Yoga Teacher Training Fall 2013 and have been teaching at several studios in Southern California since that time.

Melissa started practicing Bikram Yoga in February of 2004. Her instant love for it encouraged her to sign up for a 3-week trip to India with the founder, Bikram Choudhury, and 40 other Bikram yogis that December. After that incredible trip, she knew she wanted to be a Bikram Yoga teacher. Melissa attended the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles in the spring of 2005. Since then, Melissa has lived and taught at several studios in the United States: Bikram Yoga in Naperville, Illinois, and Bikram Yoga in Williamsburg, New York. She has also taught at many of the studios in Southern California: Bikram Yoga Long Beach, Bikram Yoga Fullerton, Bikram Yoga Costa Mesa, and Bikram Yoga in Laguna Beach. Melissa attended the Advanced Seminar Series in Hawaii and has taken several advanced classes at Bikram Yoga International Headquarters in Los Angeles. She has a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and recently graduated from Chapman University with a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. Melissa began teaching in Long Beach during the summer of 2005 and loves the community here at the Long Beach studio. She is so grateful for the opportunity to teach at such an amazing place and hopes to inspire others to practice Bikram Yoga and help them transform their lives daily with this powerful practice.

I started practicing Bikram Yoga in April, 1999. I instantly knew that this was going to make an impact in my life on all levels. I took the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 2000. This led me to open the original Bikram Hot Yoga Studio in Long Beach and watch it grow and thrive. (In 2015 the lovely Rosa took over ownership and I am so blessed to still share my love of teaching here!) I am a certified Bikram Yoga and Kundalini Yoga instructor, Levels 1 & 2, and a Certified Pilates Instructor (my latest passion), and I have completed the advanced teacher training for 84 Asanas with Tony Sanchez, and Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Tamal Dodge. I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. My yoga journey has opened many opportunities in my life. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and learning more through my practice and learning from my students. I remind myself daily that life and yoga are never going to be perfect, they are to be practiced. I look forward to meeting you in class!
